Social Hub – Main Level Renovation of Modern Townhouse/Condo

The owners of this UBC home are a retired couple, who had recently downsized from a large house. The home comprised of a downstairs room with different areas that – while being part of the same unit – did not form a cohesive space that flowed naturally, and lacked storage space and functionality.

This couple decided to proceed with a complete renovation of the entire downstairs floor, to give them space to welcome visitors, entertain, and reflect the outdoors with significant wood features throughout.

Location
UBC, Wesbrook Village

SCOPE
Complete renovation of main level of townhouse

SQFT
Approx 650 sq ft of renovated space

THE OBJECTIVE

The owners wanted to maintain the condo’s modern style, while having a very liveable space that allowed for socializing, watching TV while conversing with people in the kitchen, and importantly – being able to use a custom bar for mixing cocktails, and inclusion of wine fridges!

Storage space in the kitchen was lacking, so that was a priority, as well as replacing the carpeted floor.

Bringing the outside in – with the use of high quality millwork – would make the space not only flow within, but also complement the natural features right outside the door.

HOW IT WAS ACHIEVED

Our designers got to work to achieve the goal of a more functional and workable space for the owners, allowing them to entertain and socialize while prepping food and drinks for guests.

By opening up the space, removing dividing walls, and creating bespoke areas for designated tasks, the natural flow of the entire downstairs was transformed.

Natural wood and custom millwork brought the outside in, and enhanced the design with a cohesive structure that reflected the home’s surroundings.

While this work was not a full home renovation and the majority of the work was done in the kitchen, the downstairs space was entirely transformed by adding square footage, opening up rooms, and getting creative by adding beautiful storage space.
