To create a tranquil, contemporary spa/sanctuary, the priority for this home was on modernizing the space within its existing footprint; transform and re-invent the room, rather than tear it down, to create the desired luxurious sanctuary.
The wall between the bath and shower was replaced with frameless glass achieving client’s desire for a fresh, uncluttered aesthetic, the shower area now enjoys the view and more natural light. An extra-deep angular air-jet tub replaces unhygienic water-jet tub, and the surround is raised to windowsill level, enhancing view-lines. The unsightly flat roof visible from the tub is covered with river rock, a simple, durable solution to create pleasant visual continuity.
The marble-tile feature, beside the tub, is inspired by the “classic lantern pattern” the homeowners fell in love with during their world travels. Three types of marble add dramatic, elegant texturing that elevates this section of wall to a stand-alone art piece.
The vanity’s millwork is identically finished to the sleeping area’s custom bed frame to enhance sense of flow and connectivity. The square vessel-style sinks give a sophisticated resort-feel.
The shower features floral etched tiles for beauty; built-in bench plus both rain shower-head and handheld wand for convenience. The skylight’s west-facing well wall was angled inward to create space for the chandelier to be strategically centered, so crystals catch the fading sunset light transforming it into rainbow prisms dancing across the room.
