THE OBJECTIVE

To eliminate un-used space by creating an open concept social greatroom that the family would find much more functional as the central hub in their busy home.

HOW IT WAS ACHIEVED

Kitchen’s dining partition was removed, creating space for integrated centre island flooded with natural light from 2 new skylights, a much more functional space for this busy family. Four, floor-to-ceiling cabinets create a lineal ‘mud room’ featuring a children’s winter wear warming drawer and ‘crash-landing’ home office space for mom.

KEY FEATURES

The kitchen island’s dramatic angles allow for a wider than average section; appropriate space for the family’s casual dining and location for homework interaction. Storage and counter space are more than doubled in this new kitchen, and new double French doors allow access to a south facing entertainment patio.

The eight-foot addition means greater size for entertaining and unimpeded traffic circulation. The addition holds 2 new skylights in a vaulted ceiling. The sink is re-positioned into this new area under a window that exposes a previously hidden garden view, a second new window opposite this garden view, captures panoramic harbour views.
